In winter our body is lacking more vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients than ever before. This causes us to be less productive, get sick often and become overworked. In order to avoid this, you should make sure you’re including food rich in vitamin C, and seasonal vegetables, fruit and herbs, among other things. Here are five foods your body needs during the winter season.
Ginger
The health benefits of ginger root seem well known to all – and we recommend you use it regularly during the cold and flu season. An even simpler way to get your body in shape is to have a ginger shot every morning on an empty stomach before you eat your breakfast. The recipe is simple: chop some ginger, place it in a bowl of water, squeeze some lemon juice and honey, and leave it in the fridge overnight. You can drink the resulting tincture for three to five days and then make a new one.
Cranberries
Many people love cranberries precisely for their sour taste, but not many people know that they can be kept fresh for more than a year – if you put them in water in a closed container. They can also be used to make morsels, make sauces for first courses and so on. Cranberries also contain a huge amount of vitamin C, which is excellent for boosting the immune system.
Pomegranate
Of the imported foods, perhaps the most useful in winter is the pomegranate. They are high in vitamin C, folic acid and antioxidants, which is particularly helpful during the cold season. Pomegranate juices can be juiced, pomegranate seeds can be added to salads or eaten by themselves.
Citrus
Winter is the season for ripening citrus fruits. These include oranges, mandarins and, of course, grapefruit. All of them, as we know, contain a lot of vitamin C, which helps us not to get sick during the cold season, so without citrus fruits we can’t imagine our life in winter. They can be eaten plain, or squeezed into a fraiche and added to salads for an unusual flavour.
Greens
Greens are a lifesaver for a weakened immune system. They contain important antioxidants that boost the body’s defences. The experts advise making greens a substitute for the usual snacks: it will be good for your figure as well as your immune system.
