What to eat to be not only healthy, but also beautiful
We all know the old axiom “beauty starts from within”, and in the case of skin, this is 100% true. What we eat has a direct impact on how we look. A healthy diet full of healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamin C, collagen, and amino acids eliminates the need for a highlighter. Here are six nutrient-packed superfoods that will erase tiredness, puffiness and wrinkles from your face.
AVOCADO
Probably only hermits have not heard about the beneficial properties of avocados. The abundance of poly- and monounsaturated fatty acids (such as omega-9) keeps the skin supple and radiant, helps regenerate damaged skin cells, and reduces redness and irritation. Omega-9, in particular, keeps the epidural (upper) layer hydrated, and this, in turn, is expressed in that radiant look. Avocados are also rich in antioxidant carotenoids, which retain water in the skin while fighting free radicals, the main culprits of aging.
SALMON
Fatty fish in general and salmon in particular are full of omega-3s, another good fat that does wonders for our skin. Polyunsaturated fatty acids protect the skin from sun damage, help repair already damaged skin, and keep cell membranes healthy and hydrated by removing toxins.
BLUEBERRY
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, and the easiest way to get them is to add blueberries to your diet. Berries are also rich in vitamin A, which helps to normalize oil levels in the skin and is very useful for naturally clearing skin, especially acne-prone skin.
BONE BROTH
Bone broth is a storehouse of collagen, minerals like calcium and magnesium, and amino acids. When the bones are simmered for several hours, the collagen inside them turns into gelatin, which, when ingested, keeps the skin firm, smooth and supple. The gelatin in bone broth also helps soothe the digestive tract, which can help reduce inflammation, another factor in aging.
LEMON
Lemon is incredibly good for the skin, not only because it contains vitamin C, which can neutralize free radicals and helps us produce collagen and elastin (which bind skin cells together, giving it firmness, youth). In addition, the minerals they contain help alkalize the blood and balance the body’s pH (which is too acidic in most bodies due to overconsumption of foods such as coffee, alcohol, and processed foods). When the body’s pH gets out of control, the skin becomes hypersensitive, dry, and prone to irritation, so maintaining an optimal pH balance is key.
TURMERIC
Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties. In the short term, it fights puffiness and skin fatigue, in the long term it fights wrinkles and general aging. Eating dried or fresh turmeric also provides relief from more serious inflammatory skin problems like eczema and rosacea.
