Tangerines have long been an ever-present symbol of the New Year, along with Olivier salad and sparkling wine. However, these citrus fruits, loved by everyone, are not only tasty but also very healthy. Tangerines are a treasure trove of vitamins and healthy fruit acids. Due to its high vitamin A content, the fruit helps to prevent vision loss, improves skin, bones and teeth.
Vitamin C – a powerful natural antioxidant – stimulates the production of immunoglobulin, which ensures reliable protection of the body against viruses and pathogenic bacteria. In addition, the vitamin protects cells from free radical damage, prevents inflammation, slows down aging, nourishes skin, gives it a natural glow and protects against the damaging effects of ultraviolet light.
Vitamin B1 is beneficial to the nervous system, improving memory and concentration. Tangerines are also rich in vitamin D, which is especially needed during the cold season when we don’t see much sunshine. This vitamin improves brain and cardiovascular function and may even slow down aging. Another important vitamin found in tangerines is vitamin K, which strengthens bones and joints, gives elasticity to the walls of blood vessels and prevents their calcification.
In spite of their sweetness, tangerines are low in calories: they have only about 50 kcal per 100 grams. Tangerines do not provoke a spike in blood sugar, which means they do not cause an increase in appetite and do not increase the risk of overeating. They contain a healthy dose of fibre, which detoxifies your body and normalises your digestive system. Most importantly, don’t peel the white membranes off the tangerines – they contain up to 80% of their nutrients.
